LCCSI+ project – First international workshop in Fano, Italy

The journey of the Erasmus+ LLCIS+ (Language Learning and Cultural Integration Support) project reached a significant milestone in Italy in December 2025. This first LTTA (Learning, Teaching, Training Activity) was organized by the Italian partner Training 2000, who brought international partners together in the Marche region to explore successful models of reception, literacy, and cultural mediation. The LTTA was held in Fano and structued in 4 days full of activities.

Empowering Unaccompanied Foreign Minors (UFM)

The core of the experience was visiting two local excellence centers dedicated to supporting young migrants through specialized care and language training:

  • Casa Belgatto: Currently hosting 16–18 minors from Albania, Senegal, Egypt, Tunisia, and other African countries. Here, specialized educators face a crucial challenge: literacy. Since many of these young migrants arrive with low literacy levels, the Italian language training combines theoretical study with practical, hands-on methodologies. The curriculum is based on educational resources specifically adapted for migrants by the Italian Ministry of Education (MIUR). The center is currently managed by Marco, Anita and the team of professional educators supporting youth in their personalized independence path.
  • Casa Lucia: This community currently hosts 16 minors under the lead of Lucia and her team of volunteers. A key feature of their integration process is the involvement of volunteers, who provide dedicated Italian language courses to help these young people gain their first tools for independence.

The face of integration: The Immigration Service Center

A highlight of the week was the guided tour of the CENTRO SERVIZI IMMIGRATI Sant’Orso in Fano. Partners visited the Immigration Desk managed by the Fano Municipality, led by a Klarita, acertified cultural mediator who has lived in Fano for 30 years.

Klarita represents the vital human link in the reception process. As an immigrant herself, she assists newcomers upon their first arrival, helping them navigate complex documentation and apply for essential public services. Her experience provided partners with a deep understanding of the practicalities of mediation.

Institutional cooperation for migrants’ employability: the ACCORDI project

The institutional dimension of migration management was explored through a meeting at the Prefecture of Pesaro. Dr. Simona Ortolani presented the results of the ACCORDI project, an initiative funded by the AMIF (Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund).

The session, enriched by the technical expertise of Training 2000, focused on several strategic pillars:

  • Educational Backgrounds: Training 2000 provided an in-depth presentation on the educational systems in the migrants’ countries of origin and the specific training provided to them upon arrival in Italy.
  • Advisory Units: Partners discussed the necessary steps to establish a Migration Advisory Unit, a specialized body consisting of volunteers to guide and support the integration process.

Next Steps

This training week in Italy, made possible by the organization of Training 2000, reaffirmed that integration is not just about paperwork; it is about language, empathy, and strong local networks. The LLCIS+ project continues its mission to turn these successful local models into a common European practice.

The next phase of the project will collect the needs of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers in partner countries to develop a practical set of resources for languages learning to be used by educators, trainers and operators working with migrants.
