Training2000 joins the EU project DETOUR for developing resilient tourism ecosystems

On 1 November 2024, Training2000 joined forces with seven international partners in a new European project “DETOUR: Developing Resilient Tourism Ecosystems along Mediterranean Routes”.

Funded by the European Union under the COSME programme, DETOUR aims to facilitate access to financing for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) located along some of Europe’s most scenic rural routes and trails, such as the Via Francigena in Italy, the Lycian Way in Turkey, the Sultan’s Trail in Bulgaria, and a network of mountain routes in Greece.

The project in Italy will focus on strengthening SMEs along the Via Francigena in the regions of Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna, along the stretch from Pavia to Berceto. This pilot area will benefit from targeted training sessions for stakeholders to enhance digital skills, promote alternative resources, and foster corporate sustainability.

SMEs operating along the Via Francigena in this area will receive mentoring and access to funding opportunities for projects aimed at improving services such as renewable energy installations, digital technology, the creation of tourism packages, and sustainability, bringing lasting economic and environmental benefits to the region. Various events will be held, such as conferences and capacity-building activities in the municipalities traversed by the route.

With a total budget of 2 million euros and a duration of three years, Training2000 is committed, through the DETOUR project, to promoting sustainable tourism and supporting the digital transformation of the tourism sector.

Our organization will be responsible for capacity building activities through the organization of specific training on resilience and risk management for key stakeholders. To this end, we will organize both online and in-person training sessions and develop educational materials on sustainability in the tourism sector aimed at managers and heads of Destination Management Organizations (DMOs).

The project, led by the Municipality of Fidenza, involves partners from Italy, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey and the Netherlands, aiming to enhance tourism experiences and increase the services along the rural routes all in line with the principles of sustainable development, innovation and climate change management.
